I'm using this web
service because it was convenient. So far it seems to work just fine.
There are a lot of restrictions for using
http://www.150m.com, but they
are not unreasonable. The banner(s) at the top are the price you pay
for using a free server. I'm pretty sure they use some kind of heuristics
on the web page content, to determine what to advertise, so you may
actually find something useful. There are a couple of pretty big annoyances
that they don't tell you about up front.
First, you can't use Frames.
The site will plant a advertisement at the top of every frame, which can
really mess up your plans. I have had to redesign all of my pages to
minimize the advertisements and make the page look decent. This is
especially annoying because I write all my HTML using a simple text
editor.
OK, so you really can use frames.
But, in order to make them work right, you have to insert a special tag into
each and every on of your pages. Things are so touchy that I can't even
mention the name of the special tab, without it going into effect.
But if you use it, the popups increase. Which is worse? Banners and some
popups or lots of popups. I guess I could pay the $5 a month and get
rid of some of the advertising but I don't know if that will get rid of
the popups too.
Secondly, PopUps. You all know what these
things are. Annoying little windows that pop up in the middle of what
you are trying to read. Sometimes when you throw them away they just
spawn more popups. If you have a popup blocker, use it.
Initially I tried to get space on
http://www.qsl.net
but never received an answer from them. I applied twice and sent off two
emails but no response. They were complaining about running out of space
and trying to clean up their site, so they just may be very busy right
now. But, as long as this service suits my needs, I'll stay here.
